One minute before sunset | Минута до заката,Film & Animation,neon,urban,city,led,ussr,soviet,siberia,russia,past,memory,In 1991 the USSR collapsed and a new country - Russia began to exist. But as it always happens - only political structures fall apart, but people, their homes, lives, feelings and memories still remain. Almost all Russian cities bear the signs of the old Soviet regime - neon signs- that one could probably call "beacons" to a whole generation that was stuck between the old and the new states. The signs turned off for being inefficient in terms of saving electricity, but were not fully dismantled. This happened all over Russia and in our city of Novosibirsk - which is located in the center of a huge continent. At the same time, there is a considerable lack of proper nighttime illumination in lots of Russian cities, as well as non-existent policy towards some unified urban image of those cities. So we came up with an idea of starting a new art project of the signs' restoration, for we truly believe that this could be a great way of both decorating the city and uniting the locals over something they all share - sweet and nostalgic feelings and memories for the past era. We shot a video of the old Soviet signs coming back to life on the buildings, which resulted in: 40000 views on Vimeo, 18500 views on YouTube, over 5000 of social media likes and over 2000 comments together with local media coverage. We would love for this idea to become more than just another viral "seen-on-YouTube" story and be transformed into a real project. Там можно было крикнуть «Стойте, не отключайте» или самому залезть на крышу и вкрутить недостающие лампочки. Для меня зимним вечером надпись: «Гостиница Северная» была как путеводная звезда для странника, холодным электрическим светом намекая, что дом уже совсем близко. Пара темных кварталов – и в тепло, в свет, в горячую тарелку с супом. Этот ролик – о маленьких путеводных звездах, живущих внутри нас. Тускло пробивающихся сквозь туман времени. А мы замешкались на миг – и прошли годы. Замешкались ли? Или все-таки прожили? Стремились, бежали и добивались. Странно, но уже сейчас тяжело вспомнить, какими мы были 20 лет назад. А нам ведь еще тридцати нет. Еще немного и обрывками знаний, короткими кинохрониками и газетными вырезками мы будем пытаться восстановить нашу общую память. А между тем, есть народы, считающие, что время течет назад. Будущее – за спиной, а прошлое перед глазами.
